Continuing in Isaiah 33, let’s look at v.20 – 22

As with all people of faith, Queen Elizabeth knew that, although she was the Queen of the United Kingdom and beyond, she did not have an enduring city but was looking for the city that is to come. (ref. Heb.13 v.14) In all the troubled times of her 70 years on the throne she followed the wisdom of the prophet.

Look upon Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken. There the Lord will be our Mighty One. It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams. No galley with oars will ride them, no mighty ship will sail them. For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.

The eternal Jerusalem – Zion – the city of praise and celebration that can never be shaken. A tent – a tabernacle – a dwelling of peace and holiness that remains eternally secure. A place of fruitfulness and living streams on which no ship of war or vessel of arrogant pride can sail. A strong city where the righteous judge – our Lord – will be the mighty King.  Healing and forgiveness are to be found there for all who, through faith and by his grace, enter its gates.

it is he who will save us. – Amen

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;

Give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

His faithfulness continues through all generations.
