From Mark R

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

As we begin to approach Christmas, we begin to think about the Jesus coming to our world.

We hear the words of John 1:1, but so often our busy lives keep us from really thinking about them.

‘In the beginning…’ These words instantly remind us of the first words of the Bible, Genesis 1:1.

Genesis 1 starts from the beginning and goes forward. John 1 starts at the beginning and goes back. It takes us into eternity before time began:

‘The Word was with God, and the Word was God.’

Whereas Genesis 1 says ‘In the beginning God…’, John 1 says ‘In the beginning was the Word’

What does a word do? It is a way of conveying our unseen thoughts. Words  make our thoughts visible and audible…thoughts that had previously been invisible.

Words communicate. And Jesus is God’s Word to us, revealing God’s heart and mind to us. He makes the invisible God visible. He reveals God’s heart and Character.

Jesus said: ‘He who has seen Me has seen the Father’ (John 14:9)

We’ll be exploring more of what this means next week.
