Reflection from Phillip with thanks

Read Colossians 1:9-14

(Praying to know God’s will)

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,[a] 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[b] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Paul had not met the Colossian Christians when he wrote to them, but he prayed faithfully for them. They were a small group surrounded by a mix of cultures which included worship of false God and syncretism. Paul writes and includes his prayer for this group of believers who are under pressure to stop trusting in Christ alone. When we do not know what to pray for fellow believers, Paul’s prayer pattern for the Colossians gives a particularly good example. We might just be surprised at the answers to our prayers!!

Reflect:

Reflect on just how much God wants to reveal his purposes for our lives to us.

Pray:

For Christians we know to be filled with the knowledge of his will and understanding that the Spirit gives. Colossians 1:9

Praise:

Give thanks to God the Father who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.  Colossians 1:12
