Continuing our meditation in Isaiah 33 – v.23 – 24

When a sailing ship is on duty, the rigging is taut, the mast is secured, the sails are fully stretched and the ship is ready for action; the Queen was always ready to serve; she was always on duty. In these verses we have a picture of a ship at rest in the harbour; the battles and the journey are over; the ship has finally arrived in its home port; all is secure and at peace.

Your rigging hangs loose; the mast is not held secure, the sail is not spread. Then an abundance of spoils will be divided and even the lame will carry plunder. No-one living in Zion will say, “I am ill”; and the sins of those who dwell there will be forgiven.

Secure and at peace, dwelling in our eternal home, the treasures stored in heaven but gained on earth, treasures gained even when we were floundering in our weakest moments, are now to be shared and enjoyed in the presence of the Lord. No more sickness, pain and suffering, only the assurance that all our sins are forgiven and nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The promise is for all who have put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour – “Your eyes will see the King in his beauty and view a land that stretches afar.”

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Amen
