Mid-week Bridge 22 January 2025

Thank you to Phillip for this week’s MWB

Psalm 145

Psalm 145, like Psalm 119 and several others is an acrostic, in which each verse begins with the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet. You might like to try writing your own acrostic psalm, using a word like ‘praise’ or ‘mercy’!! I am sure the results would be impressive!
145:1-6 The greatness of God.
The psalm begins and ends with the determination to praise God everyday in the present and in the future. The following verses give reasons for such praise. The first reason is that God is most worthy of praise.
We need to stop and think of all what God has done. There are his wonderful works in creation, the power of wind and storm, thunder and lightning.
We need to thank God for his mighty acts of redemption, mercy and judgment (Ps.145:4-5). When we think of these things, we will become more aware of how much we have to proclaim. (Ps. 145:6)
145:7-10 The goodness of God.
The power of God is beyond our understanding, but we can also celebrate his abundant goodness (See also Psalm 23:6a). Many, if not all of us, will be able to testify to God’s goodness over many years. We can say with confidence that God has compassion ((145:9) on all he has made, and we should bless his name (145:10).
145:11-20 The goodness and greatness of God’s rule.
Make a list in your journal or notebook of all the things God does in these verses, 11-20. You might like to write down any experience you have had where God has been especially active in your life. For example, you may have had an experience of him fulfilling a long-term desire you have had.
You might feel able to share that experience with your house group or a close friend. You might like to make Psalm 145:14 your memory verse for this week.
Reflection:
You might like to use this prayer below to help you as you pray through and meditate on Psalm 145 during this coming week:
Thank you, Father, for all the daily blessings and provisions that You have given to us. Father, open our eyes to the many wondrous works which You have accomplished for all of us. You provide the food we eat, the shelter we inhabit. You provide the air we breathe, and You alone give us life each day. Thank you, Father, for your incredible deeds of mercy which we so often take for granted. Amen. https://westparkbaptist.org/psalm-y [ Accessed 16.12.2024
