Thank you to Ian for this week’s MWB
God the Redeemer – – – Psalm 33
In v.13 – 15 the psalmist writes –
From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind;
from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth
he who formed the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.
A heavenly spotlight on all that we
do – everything recorded – no hiding place – can we save ourselves? The psalmist continues –
No king is saved by the size of his army – no warrior escapes by his
great strength.
A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it
cannot save.
What hope have we? All our self
effort cannot save us but, Paul writes in Eph.2 v.9 – “it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
The Philippian Jailer cried – “what must I do to be saved?” – Paul
replied – “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”And so, through God’s redeeming
grace. we can join the psalmist who is able to continue –
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on whose hope is in his unfailing love,
to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Purely because of God’s love and
grace are we able to claim like the psalmist –
We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in
you.
