Mid-week Bridge 9 July 2025

Thank you to Mark for this week’s MWB

“You know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the Lord’s people. I urge you, brothers and sisters, to submit to such people and to everyone who joins in the work and labors at it. I was glad when Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you. For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.”

1 Corinthians 16:15-18

Most of the churches I have been in have a ‘Stephanus’, one (or 2) of those people who just give themselves in the Lord’s service. They are the folks who are happy to clean the church loos, volunteer to help out with Alpha, the folks you can always count on to be there if extra help is needed.

When I read about Stephanus’s devotion to the Lord’s people, I can’t help thinking about how Jesus is described in Philippians 2:

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”

Philippians 2:5-7

Do we aspire to be a ‘Stephanus’?
