Mid-week Bridge 17 December 2025

Thank you to Mark R for this week’s MWB

As the big day draws near, in the midst of the hustle and bustle, the cards to be written and posted, the presents to be wrapped, it’s easy to loose our focus and be distracted as to what Christmas is all about.

So it’s a timely reminder to revisit Bethlehem that first Christmas and listen to the words of the angel to the shepherds:

“And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”

Luke 2:10,11

A message of ‘great joy’

I’d just like to ask 2 questions:

Why would God announce this message of great joy to a group of shepherds, who were considered to be lonely outcasts in the society of that time?

And what does this humble birth of Jesus tell us about God?

As we consider our answers, may we be reminded that the good news of great joy is for each one of us, and may we join with the shepherds in drawing close to the manger in Bethlehem, and once again take in the wonder of the Saviour of the world being born…

“Emmanuel, God with us”
