Thank you to John for this week’s MWB
Priscilla & Aquila (Mrs & Mr)
In the final chapter of Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome, he writes
“Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow-workers in Christ Jesus. They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. Greet also the church that meets at their house.” (Romans 16:3-5)
And at the end of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians (written from Ephesus), he writes “Aquila and Priscilla greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house” (1 Cor.16:19).
In Acts 18 we read that Priscilla & Aquila were a Jewish couple, Christian believers, who had been forced to leave Rome by order of the emperor Claudius. They met Paul in Corinth and went with him to Ephesus. There they encountered the learned Jew Apollos. He taught and preached about Jesus fervently and boldly, but P & A realised that he had gaps in his understanding of the Christian faith. So they invited him to their home and explained the gospel more adequately.
What a lovely couple! They were willing to serve, even to risk their own lives to help Paul in gospel ministry. And they used their own home as a place for inviting others and a meeting-place for local Christians.
May we be courageous in serving, and use our home to bless others in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
